EB Horsman’s 125-Year Legacy: Spotlight on Our Campbell River Branch

As EB Horsman & Son commemorates its 125th anniversary in the electrical industry, each branch contributes something unique to the company’s lasting legacy. This month, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on our Campbell River branch, which is also celebrating a remarkable milestone—its 55th anniversary. For over half a century, this branch has played a vital role in serving the local community and strengthening the foundation of EB Horsman’s commitment to excellence.
Branch Overview
The Campbell River branch opened in 1970, has been a key branch situated on Vancouver Island for EB Horsman & Son. Under the leadership of Branch Manager Cory Evans, the branch’s team of 12 employees serves not only Campbell River but also the North Island, surrounding islands, and coastal regions extending to Bella Bella.
To ensure customers have access to materials when they need them most, the Campbell River branch opens its doors bright and early at 6:30 a.m.—a crucial convenience, especially during the warmer months. This early opening is not just a practical move but a key part of the branch’s dedication to meeting the immediate needs of its customers. Given the North Island’s rugged landscape and varied weather conditions, having access to necessary materials before the peak hours of the day is incredibly valuable. This service not only saves time but also ensures that contractors, electricians, and homeowners can get an early start on their projects without delays caused by peak temperatures.
The branch’s commitment to customer satisfaction is evident in consistently high ratings across all satisfaction surveys. The Campbell River team goes the extra mile, whether it’s through personalized guidance from knowledgeable staff, offering technical support for projects, or ensuring quick turnarounds on special orders. The branch’s approachability, combined with its understanding of local needs, has made it a trusted partner for contractors and businesses across the North Island.
Community Involvement
The Campbell River branch plays an active role in supporting its local community through fundraising and volunteer efforts. Notable initiatives include:
- Raising $1,500 in 2023 for the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island.
- Supporting Wigs for Kids, with Customer Service Manager, Sloane Perry donating his hair to benefit children in need.
- Team member Kory Tobes organizes the Annual Advent Calendar Fundraiser, which contributes approximately $2,000 each year to BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH).
- Hosting the BCCH Charity Card Game, a 14-year tradition that has raised over $38,000.
- Conducting an annual Local Food Bank Fundraiser each December.
- Collaborating with Indigenous communities to clean and restore local lands.
- Team member David Klein’s volunteer work with the local Search & Rescue.
The branch also engages with the community through monthly Counter Days, featuring core suppliers and food trucks, providing a space for networking and showcasing the latest products.
Unique Features and Capabilities of the Campbell River Branch
The Campbell River branch offers specialized services that set it apart, including its energy audit capabilities. At its peak, the branch conducted 10% of all BC Hydro energy audits across the province. These audits not only generated sales for EB Horsman but also created opportunities for customers to secure new projects.
The branch’s partnership with HTH Transport ensures unparalleled access to inventory, with materials from nearby branches and the distribution center arriving within 24 hours—something no other distributor in the region can match.
