EB Horsman: Recognizing Women in Construction Week 2026

Women in Construction Week (WIC Week) is a powerful reminder of the impact women make across the construction industry—from the jobsite to the boardroom, from technical roles to customer-facing teams. At EB Horsman & Son, we proudly celebrate the women who help drive our business forward and shape the future of our industry.

This year, we’re highlighting the momentum, the progress, and the incredible contributions of women who continue to transform construction by bringing leadership, innovation, and expertise to every project.

The Growing Role of Women in Construction

The construction industry continues to evolve as more women enter and thrive in the field. Women now represent nearly 14% of the construction workforce, a number that has been steadily increasing across skilled trades, engineering, technical services, and management roles. Over the past five years, female participation in the trades has grown by 24%, reflecting the industry’s shift toward inclusivity and diverse talent pipelines.

While challenges such as gender bias, wage gaps, and underrepresentation in leadership still exist, progress is happening. Organizations across North America are investing in mentorship programs, diversity initiatives, and workforce development strategies that encourage more women to build long-term, successful careers in the construction sector

Celebrating the Women of EB Horsman & Son

At EB Horsman, our team includes women who bring extraordinary skill, dedication, and leadership to their roles every day. They contribute in areas such as inside sales, logistics, branch operations, and technical support. Their work strengthens our business and supports thousands of customers across Western Canada.

Women like Laura Dempsey exemplify the resilience, talent, and industry knowledge that help our partners deliver successful projects. Their customer service expertise, product mastery, and ability to solve complex challenges are essential to the success of contractors and builders throughout the region

Resources For Women in Construction

The LNG Canada Trades Training Fund (TTF) supports employers with fewer than 150 employees in Northwest BC by helping them hire, sponsor, and train apprentices. The fund aims to increase apprenticeship training and completion rates while strengthening the local skilled trades workforce. By investing in workforce development, TTF helps grow the number of qualified British Columbian journeypersons ready to meet industry demands.

Women in Construction (WiC) is a grassroots network on Vancouver Island dedicated to promoting and supporting female participation in the construction industry—one of the key sectors of the provincial economy. Supported by the Vancouver Island Construction Association, WiC has active chapters in Nanaimo and Victoria, providing networking, mentorship, and career development opportunities for women in the field.

To further support women in construction, WiC offers the Vancouver Island Women’s PPE Grant, which provides $500 for workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This grant is available to women working in the industry, trades students at Camosun College, Vancouver Island University (VIU), or North Island College, as well as those enrolled in a construction foundations program or Levels 1-4 of a construction apprenticeship.

Canadian Construction Women (CCW) is dedicated to strengthening the construction industry by inspiring and supporting women in the field. Since 1981, CCW has engaged its members through monthly site tours, speaker events, networking socials, and professional development workshops. Their online community further enhances opportunities for mentorship, support, and learning. CCW’s mission is to attract and retain women in the construction industry by providing a strong support network and fostering career development. The CCW Women in Construction Bursary offers financial support to BC women enrolled in construction‑related programs or trades training, helping them advance their careers in the industry.
