There are many advantages to using an IO-Link system, including standardized wiring, remote configuration, simple device replacement, advanced diagnostics, and increased data availability. Since IO-Link systems are open standard, the devices can be integrated into almost any field bus or automation system. The IO-Link Master transmits data over various networks, field buses, or backplane buses, making that data accessible for immediate action or long-term analysis via a controller such as a PLC or HMI. It provides users with more information about their devices and enables remote monitoring of machine performance. The capabilities afforded by IO-Link result in reduced costs, increased process efficiency, and improved machine availability. These benefits are especially significant in applications that have frequent changeovers and are influenced by extended and unplanned machine downtime.IO-Link sensors do not require complicated wiring. Rather, IO-Link sensors can be connected using cost-effective standard three-core cables. In addition, IO-Link also eliminates the need for analog sensors and reduces the variety of interfaces for sensors, saving inventory costs.
IS design limits the power and heat created by an electronic device. The IS eliminates the need to isolate electronic equipment in explosion-proof enclosures, reducing the overall cost of deployment and simplifying implementation. Additionally, IS design devices can be accessed and serviced without requiring a complete venting of atmospheric hazards in the work area. When implementing an IS design strategy in Class I, Division 1 hazardous area, it is crucial that all the equipment used by IS certified and designed to IS standard. This requires the use of an approved isolated barrier located in a non-hazardous area. In the event of a fault, excess voltage is transferred behind the barrier where it can safely pass to the ground. Banner Engineering offers a number of sensors, indicators, and wireless products that feature IS design for use in hazardous environments.
